Every time a November Election rolls around, I am reminded of the episode of Northern Exposure (a great television program from the 90's) which revolves around the town electing a new mayor. As you might expect, if you're familiar with the show, Joel and Maggie come down on different sides with regard to making a choice. She believes one should vote for the candidate they feel will do the least damage, while Joel says “you vote for a strong leader”. While everyone is looking at the outcome, debating now not who should win, but what it means for the town now that the winner has taken office, Chris in the Morning has a very different outlook. “The act of voting itself is the defining moment.“ Something about watching that episode helps to calm me with regard to the process. It felt good to watch it, again, last night.
